October report
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:33 PM »
I fished 9 mornings in the month of October and will breifly report each day.  On the 1rst we caught 4 crappie across the from Cholla at the mouth of Methodist Cove. On the 3rd we caught 4 crappie and 1 bass on the west side of Salle Mae. This was the only venture on the Salt with the rest of the days on the Tonto end. I started to feel good about the BHCC when on the we boated 11 very nice crappie without catching more than one on any one spot.  They came from Methodist to Glen Cove. On the 8th I went to the Tonto buoy line but caught only 1 crappie. At the BHCC on the 13th the Thursday night storm knocked the dog out of my fish. They did'nt go anywhere but buried down in the brush! We caught 4 bass. On the 15th we caught only 1 crappie around Methodist and on the 17th and 24th 1 crappie each morning around Methodist. Today, the 31rst, we caught 4 good crappie and 1 bass around Glen Cove. All fish for the month were caught slow verticle trolling drop-shot double minnow rigs in 16 to 18 feet of water about four to five feet off the bottom. The lake dropped 3 1/2 feet from the 1rst to the 31rst so we had to keep adjusting. It ain't Bartlett but it is what it is. I think they quit pulling water today so I really think it will improve when the lake has a few days to stabilize. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!......Art

Thanks for the report Art!  We've bashed Roosevelt a bit here lately & I'm sure that was probably hard for you to hear.  Fishing has got to turn around soon so we appreciate your reports.

I plan on spending a lot of time at Rosy this fall/winter, there just has to be a good crappie bite there somewhere.

Well Bob, I'm probably gonna get grief for saying this but.... I haven't given up totally on Roosevelt  either. Have my camper staged there for the winter so I'm still a believer, as frustrating as it may be!  I'm going to put my time & hope for the just reward.

Bob, I believe that as well. But lord it gas been tough. The Crappie schools have to be there, but where? Maybe cooler water and the lake dropping will bring them out into open water.

people catch small ones so they spawn I had that great shallow bite last spring (one trip) and then they were gone, you know there are lots of crappie in that lake, where the heck they hang out till (spring spawn) is bewildering, I never catch them in the fall or spring staged or up feeding :o :dontknow:  even with the gizzard shad they should bite, heck the crappie at bartlett are buried in threadfin shad and they still will eat a minnow or jig :dontknow:
