Roosevelt 11/20
« on: November 22, 2013, 10:05 AM »
Fished Wednesday, mainly for bass, but did troll for about an hour across the lake from Cholla. To cover water quicker we trolled crankbaits with a 3/8th ounce walleye jig approx. three feet above the crank. It was a bit encouraging because I caught 2 nice sized crappie and 1 small bass. The fish came on Bandit 200 cranks in sexy shad with the boat in 23 feet of water with 30 feet of line out at 1.3 mph. The first crappie came in the middle of Methodist Cove and the second in front of Glendale Island. It's a small step for mankind, I mean crappie chasers. I will hit it more after our Dec. 7th WON high school tourney.........Art

Great report Art & nice job on the crankbait Crappie!  So how deep do you think your crankbait was running?  Given some of the dive charts I have & with your numbers I'm guessing you might of been running at 15' ish maybe a little less?

Not being a hunter, I would of forgotten all about the annual closure if you didn't mentioned it!  Searched the G&F site for a second about this and was unable to find the closure map.  I saved an old one that Fishless posted a while ago.  Using that map, it looks like Methodist Cove is the western boundary of the "No Entry" area and is open to fishing.  But it is part of the "No Hunting" area.

Thanks Larry, the map is in the duck regs with a hyper link, but you would think g and f would make it more easily available for fishermen and others that don't waterfowl hunt :dontknow:

The no-entry buoys end about 200 yards south of Methodist Cove, always have. I caught a drop-shot bass in 30' of water 20 yards north of the closure......Art
