Minnow hooks
« on: March 17, 2014, 05:54 AM »
What size is used mainly? I don't want to gut hook the fish but I want to catch them and have the ability to release if too big (Breeder stock) Or too small.

I use #6's, true turn or the BPS ones (can't remember the name) and I can't remember the last time I gut hooked a Crappie. I think the true turn feature has more to do with this then the size.

Funny you say that. I've only seen 1 crappie that couldn't be released because of hooking. That was last month at Rosey. Larry caught it. it had blood coming from its gills like a trout. Never seen one hooked that deep before.

I have been using #2 and #4 hooks. Been doing a LOT of fishing and not a lot of catching!

I fogot,, I have been using those hooks I won at a meeting raffle at Alamo last spring,,, but I fogot what kind they were. I know I have to get them on line. Any help here? I need to order some. My partner swears by the red ones?? I guess as long as they are THIN like Aberdeen (my old favorite) your minnows will live much longer and give you more action.
