Alamo 1-8, 1-9 2011

Fished with my son Jay Sat. from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Only one Crappie and it came off half way to the boat. We were in the river end with a good sized flotilla (maybe 25 or 30). The bite was super slow so we decided to try up by the dam, nada. We returned to the river end to find that the bite went off and most people had multiple fish. We missed it.

Fished Sunday from 8:30 am to 1 pm and got 4 slow trolling in the river end.

Sounds like slow fishing but it was better than being at work, right?

We were fly-fishing at Alamo on Sunday, up on the river end. (We were the two guys in the kick boats)  Picked up three nice crappie (1.5-2 pounds) , and six nice bass. Two of the bass were over 3 pounds. We were using fast sinking lines and streamers.  for us, the bite was from noon to 4:00.

And Joe, we were the ones that inadvertently trolled behind you a bit too close for comfort.  Just waiting for your backcast with that sinking whatever it was to get impaled in my scalp.........

Glad to see you guys out in the middle of the lake with everybody else.  We saw you catch one of those green carp.  Sure looked like you guys were having fun.  So is the cold water & "shrinkage" a problem........nevermind!!

Bill and LLL,

Pleased to make your acquintance! Next time I'll remember to ask "OK, which of you guys are on that crappie forum!"

No, there's no shrinkage to speak of. :D  I'm only wet slightly above my ankles, and the waders keep me warm and dry.

Sorry if my back cast got a little too close--I'm sometimes a little lazy and forget to turn around and see if there is anyone/anything I might be hitting.

A bunch of us from the AZCA are hitting San Carlos on 2-12. Have you ever fished Crappie there?

I've been fishing San Carlos the last two years. 2009 was great! 2010 not so good. I think I made 4-5 trips last spring and only caught a handful of crappies. I'll put San Carlos Feb 12 on my calendar.  I hope we see a few good reports before then.
