Lake Pleasent Crappie Report in the Republic
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:57 PM »
Who ever made that report about lots of crappie being caught at Lake pleasent in the Republic last week must have been blowing smoke!  I fished Sat evening and Sunday morning and caught 1 white bass and 0 crappie. They were not active at all.  The only fishingman on the lake was catching largemouths on live shad!  The fishing was great, but the catching was terible....

The Republic has long been "cut and paste" reports when it comes to ourdoor sports. It is a worthless rag IMO.

That being said, maybe someone got into them. There are lots of guys that know that lake really well. You never know, but I wouldn't trust the Republic, dats fa sho.

I've caught some pretty good crappie out of Pleasant, the trick is finding them.

I have never caught a crappie on purpose at Lake Pleasant. I've either been trolling or night fishing for stripers. Seeing as how Pleasant is 20 minutes from my house, targeting crappie would be awesome! :)

I searched two north coves as much as I could and found small schools of inactive crappie.  Stagers were few and far between, mixed up with the white bass or near them.  Maybe it was the large orange minnows that props plus sold me....  BBC's or John D's did nothing.  I know crappie fishing can turn on and off like a switch.  I thought for sure with that great weather last weekend that we would have a winter bite much better than that.  Oh well... that's fishing  :D

When shopping the finals days at Fisherman's Choice in the West valley (Going out of Business - 80% Off Sale) I was talking to a gentleman who went to all the way up Humbug and was slaying them in about 25 ft of water. This was during the last week of December. Just an FYI...  He said he caught 45 crappie from 8am to Noon.  Just the messenger here  :-X
Cheers!!!
