San Carlos 3/31/2018
« on: March 31, 2018, 07:16 PM »
Headed to San Carlos Saturday 3/31 with Ray (Yogi).  Left house 5:45am and already getting light.  Got to Circle K in Globe and 4 people in front of us for licenses - thinking we should have left much earlier.  Got to lake and geez seemed like a lot of trucks at the ramp parking already.  On lake maybe 8:30am and fished near Soda Canyon launch area and picked up fairly quick 3 in the first couple hours.  Headed up lake thinking we'd see large flotilla but mostly saw a few boats spread out.  Not sure where all the boats were.  People camping on shore as well.  Ended up with only 6 crappie and called it quits when the wind picked up around 2.  We returned all crappie back to the lake - have enough fish in the freezer.

Yes, that's primarily what we did.  While I had a vertical rod out front trolling it was just there as a 2nd rod.  We spent our time very slow trolling an area and casting jigs right to shore.  We also went into a cove way up lake and slowly moved around the visible sticks in 6 foot water casting everywhere next to trees.  I am thinking if you find the right spots, they will still be shallow.  Water was 66deg.  The flotilla up lake were in 12-20ft water (I think) spread out I'm not sure perhaps there were some boats killing it that way I don't know.  Didn't really talk to but one other boat and they weren't too talkative.
