« on: May 07, 2011, 08:14 AM »
posting for ron martin(hairless) while fishing bartlett friday he found a rattle snake in his boat when he moved a sack. the snake must have got in the boat while he was trolling. he was able to remove the snake with some tongs in his boat. (be careful) he only caught one crappie and a lot of bass.

WOW :o :o I always said if a rattlesnake got into my boat the SOB better know how to drive the damn thing because I am going swimming and he can take it :lol_hitting: real glad he was able to get it out of his boat :o

I have seen more rattlesnakes swimming in bartlett than any other lake in AZ and sometimes out in the middle of the lake and when the water is only 65 or so degrees, amazing you get close to them and they will coil and strike while sitting in the water (can't strike as far as on land but will still make an attempt :o

It wasn't snake shot it was a hollow point. That would probably end the fishing trip real fast.

One of my memorable fishing trips was at San Carlos many years ago. We arrived to the boat ramp with 30 or so boats waiting to launch because of a bass tournament. So my Dad got out of the truck to get his rod rigged up but realized that we had left our rods at home. But lucky for us we kept back ups in the boat. So he was pulling them out of the compartment and managed to snap a foot from the tip off. He clipped it to the closest eye and rigged it from there. So after all that we finally get the boat in the water and head to the railroad cut. We start fishing and on the second cast my dad loses his grip and the rod flies into the lake. After taking an hour to fish it out we finally caught it with a spinnerbait. So we are back to fishing and we see movement in the water far away. We started to head its way to see what it was. It was 6 foot rattlesnake that was about 600 yards from the shore. My Dads friend that was with us started taking pictures of it. We watched this snake for about 10 minutes and all of a sudden it dove under the boat. A few moments went by and the next thing we know its crawling into the boat motor. All three of us were running around the boat like chickens with our heads cut off. One of us hit the button to trim up the motor and that managed to pin it and break its back.

So since it was pinned in the motor, we grabbed the oar and kill it. Later on that night we fished for crappie under a light. We caught about 20 and 2 of them were tagged for the crappiethon. I don't remember what it was we won. It was nothing exciting. I put some of the pictures below.

Yeh, I'm pretty sure I'd be like a lady when she sees a mouse and gets on the highest chair.  I think what I have taken from this is if I see a snake swimming at all near my boat, I'm taking off and getting the @#$$ out of there fast.  I sometimes have 2-3 kids in my boat and I can't imagine what they'd do.  Do you think the snake would be aggressive and bite you or most likely just move around your boat calmly (assuming everyone in your boat didn't react to it or make sudden movements)?

Who Knows it might have just curled up and rested it was pretty far from the bank.
