Goodbye Crappie Fishing at SanCarlos
« on: August 09, 2011, 07:19 AM »
SanCarlos is done.
There is less than 1% of water for the entire lake.  There is only 12 feet of water by the dam and that is the only place you can fish.
The fishing isn't any good because the water is so warm and all the fish for the entire lake is in that one area.  Its very difficult to launch a boat because its all mud by the boat launch at soda canyon.  The lake will be dried up the the next few weeks unless theres a lot of rain. Looks like the end of a fishing era for Crappie fishing at San Carlos.

Very sad! We have been talking about this for months, no monsoon= dead lake. Last year was touch and go but this going into the spring the lake was about 20' lower than the spring of 2010.

There is some hope for the future though. SC has been completely dry with total loss of all fish like 32 times in its life span and somehow it has always rebounded. Of course it will take a few years.

I wish the parties involved with management and usage of the lake would pull their heads out their butts and come up with a new game plan to fix the problems. A new dam is needed so that the lake can return to be what it once was, the largest reservoir in AZ. The lake needs to be cleaned up and marker buoys set. And a marina of some kind, or even a ramp with a dock should be built. But I think I have a better chance of hitting the power ball than that happening.

Too bad. It was a very pretty lake. I am glad I got to fish it last year.

Yeh, this last year was my first year fishing in AZ and I made it a point to hit it and Alamo, both a little further drives and more effort to get to.  I had good fishing at both places and glad I went.  I'd like to see pictures of the lake now.
