Title: Question on Apache
Post by: AZfisherdude on November 10, 2010, 12:15 PM
Hey Piscolli, in that report for the G&F you said that Apache is your "wild card" lake. Have there been reports of people catching crappie up there? I may have an opportunity to get out the middle of next week and was thinking of heading up there. I'd love to catch some walleye but haven't been crappie fishing in a while either. If I could do both that would be killer. You said something about structure.... Are you talking about immediately in the cove area near the dock at BC? Any idea of other areas to try?

Yes. We caught some big slabs last winter until the wind blew us out of there

That's cool. I remember hearing that it used to be a great crappie lake before the algae kill. I don't know if I get to go now. My father in law is in the hospital and may need help next week so the days off will be most likely used for family instead of fishing. Apache is too far for me unless I have a whole day to fish so it may be a while. I'll resurrect this one if I get to go but still interested in hearing stories or advice for the lake with regards to crappie.
I fished closer to the marina at night one time during the summer. We used lights and minnows as well as jigs and spoons but only nabbed a couple of little yellows. I wasn't even aware that there were crappie in there at the time. We were just going for yellows, cats, and lmb.

Yeah? I have only caught 1 walleye so I am still looking to find some more. San Carlos is fun. Too far and too expensive for me by myself. I like that lake though.

So it looks like I will get to go fishing on Tues or Wed. My FIL is doing well and my wife will just take the kids to hang out with him for a bit soooo..... I am thinking Bartlett or Apache.  Any opinions?
Also, if I go to Apache, any tips on where and what to fish? I haven't caught a crappie in a while and last year was my first go at it. I am a little rusty.

What about Bartlett? There was a post on the Zone that said the water was low. Anyone have tips on fishing up there right now? I'd love to catch some dinner!
