Christmas and birthday coming up and I am thinking that this should be on the short list! :D

I want to use it from my pontoon. Any advise is much appreciated. Have plenty of batteries and a generator......................

Made my own but I would give these a serious look:

http://www.greenfishlights.com  A couple 40w would be perfect for your pontoon & would light up the world.  Couple guys here have these lights

or

Nucli-eye Aurora for an LED option http://www.jumpingchollajigs.com which you can possibly get locally at Sportsman Warehouse.

Thanks for the lead to the "Green fish lights". His 4' only draws 2 amps.........................How much does your custom made one draw? Do you have any pics of it?

I'm not sure about the amp draw on my lights.  I usually use two lights w/ a dedicated battery for them & can easily run them all night in the summer.  They are very similar to theirs in both components & design.  Easy to make but the clear Schedule 40 PVC is where most of the expense is which puts it close to the price of buying one.

I know Grainger has them & other plumbing supply shops - I needed 2" but you might need a smaller diameter for LEDs:

What are you going to use as far as your LED's? Seems like a 2" tube would be too large a diameter and buoyancy would be a problem. I really don't know but it would be nice to get this light thing figured out real soon.

I know I looked for LEDs awhile ago but can't remember which ones I found. Right now i jut use a 6 in  fluorescent green light from optronics. They sell at Sportsmans. I bought a two foot one from their  same brand used it once and leaked water and blew bulb. I have had the 6 incher for like 3 years with no problem.

With LEDs and  buoyancy issues. I plan in using 2 in ID clear pipe with a 1 in white PVC with LEDs lights attached to it. Then slip that inside clear tube and presto. Now for weight.Ill just add some lead weights or straight lead to it to make sink.

For my 4' lights we melted lead wheel balance weights & poured it into a half soda can used as a mold.  Then put the weight into the bottom portion of the light to keep it vertical in the water & the top portion of the light 6" or so above the water line.  Think it weighed something like .75 lbs or maybe it was 1.75 lbs....... Can't freakin remember!

I've seen pics of people using waterproof flexable LED strips wrapped around a stick of PVC pipe.  Certainally not a LED expert but might try here for them?  http://www.superbrightleds.com/

I have 3 of the 4 footers from the green light guy. Never had any issues and one battery handles them all night long. It looks like freakin Vegas when they are all plugged in.

Anyone have any info on light color for night crappie fishing?  I have used all different kinds and it seems as if I have had by far the most luck using the white floating light.  Fishing just off of the light, not under it.  I must say I have tried night fishing many, many times and have never done well using the floresent green lights.  Maybe I am wrong, but I really believe the white lite works better.  However, I have no idea why???

I have tried that to.  I'm not sure what the best senero is.  I've been crappie fishing for over 30 years in AZ and I'm still not an expert.  The only thing for sure is that you have to be in the right place at the right time with the right bait, and holding your mouth correctly is a must!  good luck

I  find dupont lures work better at night than even the lights, the 6-10 second fuse is the best

I was told that you must be playing Alan Jackson on the stereo to get the crappie to bite.

I have done many scientific experiments with beverage and music. Crown Royal works best, as long as you don't have to drive. Also, Crappie love 311, Iron Horse and Austrian Death Machine best. Just sayin

That's awesome. I don't drink so that won't work for me. Also whenever I have listened to music on the water I have been skunked mostly. I was listening to Country thou so maybe that was my problem.

I've caught numerous fish both ways but I believe I do way better with the green lights.

Last night, we used 3 light set-ups: a green light, my buddy's makeshift crappie light made out of PVC pipe and tons of little LEDs, and a cheap Berkley crappie light from walmart.

It appeared that the fish really liked the berkley light more than anything: The minnows didn't even go near my green light.  I was a bit peaved about it: thing costed me 20 bucks!

I actually tried that this last weekend.  The minnows ignored the green light and flocked towards the cheap Berkley headlight.

The Berkley Float light = looks like a car headlight stuffed into Styrofoam casing.  Green light pretty much looks like the one posted earlier in the topic with minnows all around it: Only there were no minnows around it for me this time.

some of the older floating headlights with foam will pull a lot of amps have had friends use them and then go to start the boat and battery is to low to start boat

Happened to me. I had two of them. Used up a group 29 battery in about 6 or 8 hours. But they did work.
