Upcoming Events / Re: C.A.S.T. For Kids Sunday, March 3rd at Lake Pleasant
« Last post by OneBlade on March 03, 2024, 05:06 PM »
This was the first time I've done this event.  I know Dave did it 3 years, I think Stevert did as well, maybe Larry, and maybe others.  This event is well-organized and you show up 7am and by 8:15am you're assigned a child and guardian (or two) to ride on your boat.  You take them out fishing for a couple hours and come back in for lunch around noon, and then stick around for the awards ceremony at the end.  The kids get to talk about their fishing trip and that's kind of fun to hear as some of these kids this is their first time on a boat, first fish they caught, etc.  It's very rewarding for volunteers and the kids.  They had some issues last year with getting boats on the water and so forth.  Not this year, they had people drive your truck/boat and launch as well as pick you up from the boat ramp when done.  Very slick easy peasy.

One guy caught 33 fish, I think mostly bluegill, but what fun for them huh?  I thought Tommy FishMan was there he'd do great getting these kids on fish maybe next year.

We fished on the north side of the lake.  Much of the time was spent teaching the child how to cast and reel in (he was nearly blind) and try out the different techniques he wanted to (big ol' nightcrawler on the new rod and reel they gave him).  We were able to land a crappie using aberdeen hook, split shot, and minnow.  I found that school on LiveScope and dropped the minnow right into the school they couldn't resist. I think we were the only crappie caught as most guys there were targeting bass. Matt Shura was running the awards ceremony and thought ours was a "fish story" when we said we caught a big crappie.  Anyway, fun time hopefully other crappie fishermen and women can help out next year.

From Cameron:
> Ok guys let’s talk alittle about the mule deer tournament on april 13th.  The night before the tournament which will be Friday the 12th. We will be doing a pig roast. I am asking everybody that plans on attending. Please bring a side dish dessert drinks so we have enough for everyone Saturday the day of the tournament we would be doing the fish fry just like we always do, and also please bring side dishes for the fish fry myself and the other guys that put this on would really appreciate it. We will be in the group area we have it for the whole week when you pull into the group are you gonna go right over to the little part that’s where we will be at Mr. Terry Herndon will be bringing firewood if you would like to bring extra firewood for us to make sure we have enough that would be great. Also, it will be $75 per person entry $25 big fish and also $25 goon fish. There will also be a $25 pot for smallest Croppie so if you get into all categories it will be a total of $150… You can have as many people on your boat as approved for your boat. Everyone on the boat has to be in the same categories. it’s going to be a blast. It is family oriented. Please bring your families if they would like to attend wife girlfriend, mom dad sister‘s kids, whatever they are all welcome. Also, anyone is able to fish this tournament. If you have any questions please reach out to myself and if you plan on bringing anything to help out with the potluck dinners please comment on this post what you will be bringing and what day you will be there you will be responsible to pay the $15 a night for camping….   And to add a note if you have a fish fryer and would like to help cook this year please let me know.

Roosevelt / Roosevelt Sat Feb 24th

On the water 9am launched out of Windy Hill and headed up to the Salt end at least up to and past Schoolhouse ramp but on the other side of the lake.  Trolled with my 16ft rods and double-minnow rigs off the side and front and only caught 3 crappie (lost several others) and a couple bass. All crappie were 2lbs+ though. Found the area I chose was near the same area as a majority of the National Crappie League tournament guys were fishing at up there as well.  I counted 11 boats in the floatilla at one point and over half were using LiveScope and casting at fish.  LiveScope was lit up with bait balls as well as lone and pairs of crappie, but we didn't leverage that useful information well (still learning and adjusting settings).  NCL tournament results haven't been posted yet but top weight was 5 fish over 12lbs I think. I don't think they used minnows either. NCL 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place were also at 10lbs or more for 5 fish.

NCL guys put on a great tournament and at weigh-in had speakers, digital display for weight, and pretty good process for that. They held a raffle and gave away some good BnM rods, Canyon Cooler, marble cutting board, etc.  Campfires both nights were great and food also really good.  Florin fried up some pork belly (Chicharrón) that was good and lots of other good stuff.

Next meeting, and NCL tournament, is March 23rd at Alamo Lake, then Spring Crappie Fest on April 6th: http://www.azcrappie.com/forum/index.php/page,scf2024.html

Other spring crappie fishing events listed here: http://www.azcrappie.com/forum/index.php/topic,5061.msg

Crappie Gear / Humminbird 998c Finder Buttons/Repair
« Last post by OneBlade on February 26, 2024, 07:01 AM »
My front Humminbird 998c graph may have gotten some water damage and now one or more of the buttons is not responding. I found some instructions online to take it apart and try and clean the buttons, but I'm doubtful it'll fix it and I won't break anything in the process.  Does anyone have an extra Humminbird they would be willing to sell?   I am looking for similar Hummingbird so that I can use the existing transducer already wired through my MinnKota trolling motor shaft.  I can look on ebay but figured I'd ask here.

Upcoming Events / Re: AZCA February 2024 Meeting at Roosevelt Lake

I will try to make it out to the meeting.
Any idea around what time for the weigh-in/meeting?

- Adam
I think NCL tournament ends at 3pm but then they do weighin and announcement of winners.  I would say 3:15-3:45 will be weighin and meeting in there.  If you can't find anyone I have a Lance truck camper on Chevy truck with Alumacraft Tournament sport boat.

Cheers!
