Title: Minn Kota Ram Mount
Post by: Art Chamberlin on May 14, 2011, 10:58 AM
For you guys that have a MinnKota Terrova I-Pilot trolling motor (I absolutely love mine) I very strongly reccommend purchasing a Ram mount trollong motor stabilizer and putting it on your boat. My good friend, Don Kammerzal, had his Terrova deploy itself last Saturday at approx. 30 mph and it ripped it right off the boat and gone! All he had left was the mount and the plug. For $50 this would not have happened. Hawk, please get one if you already haven't. ........Art

Art, do you know if he had the collar on the troll motor down and tightened? I had not been doing that when on the lake but after hearing about the unscheduled deployment I have started putting the color down and tightening it when on the lake and when the boat is trailered etc.

oh how has fishing been?

isnt that why they have the collar on the shaft. its kind of a pain and i only lock it down for the trail to apache. now ill lock it down most of the time. my powerdrive seems real secure.

It didn't work. Had to go with plan "B". But it will work for my bow fish finder.

I used one for my bow-mount FF on my olde boat and it held up through some very rough, flat-bottom thrashing.

I still wonder if you have your collar down snug against the motor drive if that is enough, I have locked mine in and tried to pull it up and force it forward to deploy and it won't?

Fishless,The other reason for the mount is to keep the IPilot from bouncing around so much.

I'm thinking of getting a MinnKota Terrova trolling motor and saw this post about it deploying while underway.  I also saw a similar complaint on Bass Pro customer comments.  I want to make sure I get the correct stabilizer that works.  Fish Hawk or anyone, do you think cousinlll's recommended links would work?

Or this one?

This one still seems like I need to use a bungee cord or something as it looks like it just rests on that and doesn't prevent it from going up and deploying.

I ended up getting mine at BPS Tracker parts counter.
