Title: Nov 2 2019 Bartlett Trip
Post by: FishMan on October 30, 2019, 10:15 PM
I’ll be fishing Bartlett this Sat morning with my Dad and Uncle. Anyone on the lake having any questions about the club, be sure to say “hi” and ask away. I’ll likely be up lake beyond the no wake bouys early morning, then based on how the bite is, make my way down to the fish habitats. 16 foot v hull tracker with a 9.9 Mercury. Jiggy Jiggy.

Fishless.....wind can’t stop me. Launched Yellow Cliffs around 7am and headed up lake to the island beyond the no wake bouys. Drop shot Minowes while casting the 2nd rod with a BBC 1/8 jig. Nothing the first hour, but as the sun came up the bass started to turn on. Caught 20 bass, bluegill, and cats casting to the cliff wall while making our way back to the Nonwake bouys. Around 10:00 started hitting the coves on the way back, picked up another 20 Bass, cats, gills. Then found a nice school of suspended Crappie in about 24 FOW, holding over some brush. Ended with about 15 Crappie, casting BBC on 1/8 jig. And also on the Minowes Rig. It was 50/50 black and Black Nose. Most were in the 1 pound class. Only one small fish, and one pushing just over 2. Lots of fisherman out there. Everyone was fishing bass, except us and a couple on kayaks searching for Crappie. Off the water by 12:15. You guys should slay them next weekend for the November club meeting.

The fish Jeri and I dumped for the DNR were between 3 -10 inches they were Black nose so they had to be the ones you caught . We did dump them in the coves in the north end of the Lake . Curt and his crew dumped them south of the Main ramp.

Craig....about 1/2 of the 15 total fish caught were the Black Nose ones. All fish caught today were safely released and 2 of the black nose ones were easily already over a pound. Very excited for the future of this fishery and awsome to see the benefits provided by all the hard work of the AZGF and our AZCA members is the stocking and habitat work.

All the crappie we stocked down lake were 3-4" at best no 10", been told no money $$ for more to be stocked next year.

The guys who loaded our barrels stated they were a mix 3-10 inch fish I did not measure them but did witness some larger fish going in , in any case it has been 8 months since then I wonder if any one has actual growth rate figures for our AZ lakes. Were you on the DNR boat I do not remember seeing you there .

I will be with g and f today I will ask about the growth rate, someone had told me years ago but I forget, we have a LONG growing season due to our weather and in the case of Bartlett there is great forage for fish. I was on the g and f boat that worked the south end of the lake since I knew where there was flooded brush with some of it still sticking out of the water from the lake filling this year and would be great hiding places for small crappie :dontknow:
