Bartlett / Bartlett March 19
« Last post by OneBlade on March 20, 2024, 06:28 AM »
Took a quick trip to Bartlett with Dorian during his spring break. Headed up past yellow cliffs and found it really difficult to read Livescope as there was so much junk on the screen.  Water was dirty presumably the water coming from Horseshoe they started dumping on Monday. We struggled there trying to cast to fish but with some breeze and screen clutter was tough.  We headed back more into Cat Bay area and caught a couple crappie using long poles vertical trolling and few green carp, including 3.37lb one were caught casting jigs to shore.  We should have adjusted and headed to a cleaner area but didn't and got off the water before the storm rolling in hit us.

IAMMAC said he's coming back to defend the title and will help clean fish and help cook.

The release will end around 3pm on March 22nd. Bartlett Lake will rise 6-8 feet and Horseshoe Lake will drop 6-8 feet over this period. Please plan accordingly for lake level changes.

Hey all, Spring Crappie Fest (SCF) 2024 is just one month away at Alamo Lake April 6. We have the large group site Wednesday to Sunday that week.  You can read more about the event details here: http://www.azcrappie.com/forum/index.php/topic,5057.0.html

We desperately need your help in making this year's event to be one of the best. Please reply here with how you can help.

* Help Run Tournament: This is a low-effort position and you'll have help from me and Timbo.  And, you can fish the tournament as well. Just need someone to check livewells, take entry forms/money from 5:45-6:00am and then after tournament setup the scale, perform the weigh-in between 2:30-3:00pm, announce winners, present trophies, and take pictures.

* Raffle Tickets Sales: I'll provide the tickets you just need to sell the tickets after the meeting. You won't be able to match Tommy FishMan's skill and excitement, but please try your best. AZCA members can help at the event and purchase tickets as the sales not only pay the club back for the prizes, but help pay for the events.

* Fish Fry: This is at least a 2 or 3-man job.  You'd bring frier, oil, supplies, etc. and fry the fish, hushpuppies, etc. along with all of the cleanup the following day.  The AZCA will reimburse you for cost of oil and batter.

* Membership Renewal: All existing AZCA members can save me and membership director time and renew your annual membership now online before the event.  Follow instructions in email I sent you, and if you lost the email or have any problems, please text/call me and I can help.

* Membership Forms: Kevin (Tweeder) won't be able to make this event, so we need someone to step up and get the remaining membership forms and payments from the remaining AZCA members who haven't renewed by the event date.

* Meeting Notes: I just need someone to take notes during the AZCA meeting mainly attendees, prospects, and any decisions (e.g. BHCC 2024 and SCF 2025 dates).

* Clean Fish: Clean the fish and keep them on ice prior to the fish fry.  Bring your cleaning knives, extension cord, some gallon ziplock bags, and extra ice.

* Generator: The covered ramada at the large group site only runs lights when connected to a generator. Bring your generator and setup at the large group site Friday and Saturday evenings.

* Fire Wood: Bring a bag of firewood and enough members do this we'll have nice campfires Friday and Saturday nights.

* Poker Tournament: Tommy FishMan won't be at the event to run the tournament. But it would be great to run a game Saturday night, so we'd need someone to bring poker chips, cards, table cloth, etc. and make the tournament happen.

* Surprise Food or Drink: AZCA members have some great hunting and cooking skills. I've had some great foods and drinks made by AZCA members. Bring some cool stuff to share with the group.

I'll send out another reminder closer to the event, but even if you sign up for one of the above, please contribute to the potluck:

* Potluck: Bring plenty of plates, bowls, napkins, and plasticware for everyone to use

* Potluck: Bring main dish, side dish, dessert, or drinks to share. Reply here with what you are bringing so we don't have duplicates.

For Sale/Want / 14' Aluminum V-Bottom and trailer
« Last post by Philbie on March 07, 2024, 10:20 AM »
1971 Richline 14' with trailer.  Comes with an Evinrude 9.9hp 2 stroke, Prowler trolling motor (battery cashed out), 2 life jackets, 2 oars, anchor with rope, seats, spare tires, fuel tank, and fish finder.  Wooden benches were rebuilt a couple of years ago with Pine and Cherry and seat post mounts installed.  Boat was originally from Minnesota (Father-in-laws) as well as trailer.  Trailer will need some DMV time as the VIN # is unreadable.

Motor was serviced several years ago and runs very well but could probably use another inspection. Typical 2 stroke, can be a bit finicky at times.  Pushes the boat with 2 people and gear at 11mph.

$1500 reasonable offer. Val Vista/University in Mesa.

Bartlett / Bartlett March 2 with AZ Crappie Sniper Guide Service
« Last post by OneBlade on March 03, 2024, 05:11 PM »
Finally was able to get a trip out on the lake with Randy Howton of AZ Crappie Sniper Guide service.  Randy excels on using LiveScope to target crappie and has a good technique for catching them in the winter when they may not always be in big schools.  On the water Saturday March 2 by 7:30am, was concerned of potential wind issues but luckily it didn't get too breezy until early afternoon when we were getting off the lake.  We learned different things about this fishing technique and hopefully can use that skill on my next outing on my boat.  We caught 14 crappie I think and a couple bass.  We missed a lot more mainly in poor reeling or setting the hook on my part.  Anyway, fun time and now I have some fish in my freezer.  We saw Dave (Desert Rat) out there as well as JT (SlabDaddy), Cameron (Crappie Whisperer), and Florin (Pleasant Whiperer).

Upcoming Events / Re: C.A.S.T. For Kids Sunday, March 3rd at Lake Pleasant
« Last post by OneBlade on March 03, 2024, 05:06 PM »
This was the first time I've done this event.  I know Dave did it 3 years, I think Stevert did as well, maybe Larry, and maybe others.  This event is well-organized and you show up 7am and by 8:15am you're assigned a child and guardian (or two) to ride on your boat.  You take them out fishing for a couple hours and come back in for lunch around noon, and then stick around for the awards ceremony at the end.  The kids get to talk about their fishing trip and that's kind of fun to hear as some of these kids this is their first time on a boat, first fish they caught, etc.  It's very rewarding for volunteers and the kids.  They had some issues last year with getting boats on the water and so forth.  Not this year, they had people drive your truck/boat and launch as well as pick you up from the boat ramp when done.  Very slick easy peasy.

One guy caught 33 fish, I think mostly bluegill, but what fun for them huh?  I thought Tommy FishMan was there he'd do great getting these kids on fish maybe next year.

We fished on the north side of the lake.  Much of the time was spent teaching the child how to cast and reel in (he was nearly blind) and try out the different techniques he wanted to (big ol' nightcrawler on the new rod and reel they gave him).  We were able to land a crappie using aberdeen hook, split shot, and minnow.  I found that school on LiveScope and dropped the minnow right into the school they couldn't resist. I think we were the only crappie caught as most guys there were targeting bass. Matt Shura was running the awards ceremony and thought ours was a "fish story" when we said we caught a big crappie.  Anyway, fun time hopefully other crappie fishermen and women can help out next year.

Please bring a side dish dessert drinks so we have enough for everyone Saturday the day of the tournament we would be doing the fish fry just like we always do, and also please bring side dishes for the fish fry myself and the other guys that put this on would really appreciate it. We will be in the group area we have it for the whole week when you pull into the group are you gonna go right over to the little part that’s where we will be at Mr. Terry Herndon will be bringing firewood if you would like to bring extra firewood for us to make sure we have enough that would be great. Also, it will be $75 per person entry $25 big fish and also $25 goon fish. There will also be a $25 pot for smallest Croppie so if you get into all categories it will be a total of $150… You can have as many people on your boat as approved for your boat. Everyone on the boat has to be in the same categories. it’s going to be a blast. It is family oriented. Please bring your families if they would like to attend wife girlfriend, mom dad sister‘s kids, whatever they are all welcome. Also, anyone is able to fish this tournament. If you have any questions please reach out to myself and if you plan on bringing anything to help out with the potluck dinners please comment on this post what you will be bringing and what day you will be there you will be responsible to pay the $15 a night for camping….   And to add a note if you have a fish fryer and would like to help cook this year please let me know.
