A few Arizona Crappie Association (AZCA) folks are headed to Alamo Lake February 16-18 to catch some crappie, camping, plus on Saturday head to Wayside Resort for some burgers and live music (Tex-Az Troubadours https://www.facebook.com/TexAzTroubadours).  Details are being worked out as to where to camp and what days people are heading up.  I'm not sure I can make this event as I am oncall at work that weekend. However, campsite info will be posted here once booked.

Roosevelt / Re: A-Cross road through Tonto creek gone at Roosevelt

I just went on a side by side ride on A Cross this weekend.  It seemed about what I remember when I had gone to Indian Point ramp last year in my truck...

Roosevelt / A-Cross road through Tonto creek gone at Roosevelt

Lots of people in Tonto Basin not happy but the TFN has decided to shut down A-Cross road >:( that when it is open was the easiest way to get to Indian Point Launch ramp crossing tonto creek. They have started tearing out the road to return it to "its natural state" :angry4: they are leaving the much worse crossing Bar X open for now. The new bridge that was supposed to be completed in January is now projected to be completed in June :banghead:

It was great seeing everyone this last weekend at Alamo Lake. While weather was cold at night, it was nice out during the day with no wind and nice sunny days.  Everyone caught some crappie primarily using LiveScope to target individual fish.  Fish caught with jigs in 30-50ft of water with fish. We voted in a new member David Toyne - welcome to the club David!

Friday night we had a nice campfire and Saturday we headed to Wayside Resort/Bar for food, drink, and live music by the Tex-Az Troubadours (https://www.facebook.com/TexAzTroubadours).  Scott's (TweakJr) wife Bridget even went up and played harmonica for Piano Man and the final song Closing Time.  Scott helped out on tamborine a few songs and we all got out there and danced a few songs.

General Discussion / Arizona Crappie Association Winter 2024 Update
« Last post by OneBlade on January 11, 2024, 07:52 AM »
Hey all, I posted a few upcoming AZGFD volunteer opportunities on our website and social media.  To learn about such events and AZCA events, make sure and like/follow The Arizona Crappie Association on azcrappie.com (http://www.azcrappie.com/forum/index.php), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/arizonacrappie), and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/azcrappie/).

Our monthly meeting is this Saturday at Alamo Lake campsite B24 at 4pm.  If you're camping up there, be sure and stop by B24 on Friday night we'll be having a nice big campfire 'cause it's gonna be cold!

The National Crappie League (NCL) Arizona trail put on by the great folks at the National Crappie League’s Crappie fisherman of arizona Facebook group is in full force going well.  Each lake has brought up unique conditions and many have adapted well. The next event at Bartlett Lake is sure to require adaptation to water level changes that are happening. The AZCA February and March monthly meetings will likely coincide with NCL tournaments since most of the members are already there at those events.

The Arizona Crappie Association's next major event is the Spring Crappie Fest at Alamo Lake on Saturday April 6th.  We have the large group site and plan to get there as early as the Wednesday before.  We hope to see all you crappie fishermen and women there. April is looking to be great for Arizona crappie fishing with the Arizona Mule Deer Org crappie tournament and NCL crappie tournaments that month as well.

The Arizona Crappie Association is always looking for input from AZCA members and non-members.  Please don't hesitate to reach out here, message on Facebook, post on azcrappie.com, or contact me the AZCA President directly (Matt Rokusek) with anything.

As usual, thanks to AZCA members and non-members who provide for the AZCA including Randy Howton at AZ Crappie Sniper Guide Service, Liar's Korner Bait and Tackle, Cameron's Custom Jigs, Brian at Mudshark Marine, Matthew at AZLeadWorks, James Rollins, and of course the AZCA officers and long-time helpers including Cameron Gilliam (VP), Tommy Rufrano (Treasurer), Kevin Morgan (Membership), Tim Fitzgerald, Dave Thompson, Larry Larsen, Bruce Ivor, and many more.

Upcoming Events / Apache Lake Fish Habitat Build and Install Jan 27
« Last post by OneBlade on January 11, 2024, 06:50 AM »
From AZGFD: https://volunteer.azgfd.gov/need/detail/?need_id=873452

The Arizona Game and Fish Department will be placing Mossback Safe Haven and Georgia Cube fish habitat structures into Apache Lake on Friday and Saturday January 26th-27th. We will plan on meeting at Burnt Corral Boat Ramp at 9AM and will work most of the day until all the habitat is placed in. Hopefully finishing by 2 or 3PM. There are separate registrations for each day, please sign up for both, or the specific day you wish to help on.

Volunteers will be constructing habitat and assisting with loading it onto Department boats for install. This activity will include the use of some power tools such as drills, so small children will likely not be able to participate in this event. However, we welcome ages 10+ to come help out and see what we do. Volunteers should bring their own water, food, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc. Volunteers will want to wear closed toed shoes and clothes appropriate for January weather. If you have any questions feel free to email Lacey Schmitt at LSchmitt@azgfd.gov or Nathan Bailey at NBailey@azgfd.gov.
