Title: 3-30-13 Tonto end
Post by: Philbie on March 30, 2013, 06:33 PM
9 in the boat, lost 2 just shy of the net.  6-10ft deep at a crawl.  Another fun day with the old man

Hit up the Tonto end as well early in the AM.  Was surprised to see the Flotilla over 35 ft. of water with water temp's being in the 60's and a full moon in effect.  I thought they'd be in much shallower water.  We only picked up 2 (3 missed hookups as well) but we might have been trolling too fast we were at .6 - 1.0 mph.  Our depth was at 8 ft.  Tried every color with/without minnows and just plain minnows on a hook.  About 10 am we left the flotilla and tried some areas across from the dam.

We avoided the flotilla for the most part.  Early we focused near the "No Wake" bouys and trees at the north end of Bermuda Flatts in 28-32ft of water picking up 4 and losing 2 just inches from the net.  Moved closer to Indian Point and had 3 fish in about 15 minutes, then picked up a crappie here and there in 16-22ft of water.

I noticed in another post where the comment was made about how boaters would fish an area for a few minutes and leave.  We saw the exact same thing.  We worked 2 areas for about 3-4hrs each.

Can someone tell me if the schoolhouse boat ramp is back in water and usable yet?

Though I live 5 minutes from Schoolhouse I havent been down there for 2 months now. But the SRP  Daily water report  website says the water is still 2 feet below the ramp today.
Can someone tell me if the schoolhouse boat ramp is back in water and usable yet?

Getting closer, but the Schoolhouse ramp is still out of the water. At the rate the lake is slowly rising I'm quite sure it will not be open for the SCF.........Art

Art,
Congratulations!
All,
Fished the tonto end Friday evening from 5:30PM to dark and Saturday from 7AM-3PM.
Boated 34 Crappie, 1 LM, and 1 YB. Kept slabs 4/10 for Good Friday dinner and 14/24 for Easter Sunday brunch. Fish under 12 inches released. Pic of Saturday fish attached. Only one male.
Consistency in speed, depth and persistence put the fish in the boat.
My girlfriend caught her PB at just over 2 lbs/15.25".
Honestly, grub color did not matter. The only grub that didn't catch a fish was blue/silver.
Minnow size did not matter either, her 2lb was caught on a 3/4" minnow and several dinks were caught on minnows > 2.5" long.

Nice catch Papermouth.  Did you catch most in the evening or morning?  Did you catch them in shallow or deeper water.... if you don't mind sharing.

The only time that stood out was a "lull" between 12-3PM on Saturday. Friday evening was red hot with 10 fish in just over an hour.
I fished all depths < 30 feet. Caught my fair share of sticks when I went < 15 feet. Tried to stay in between.

Thanks for the report.
YVW, there are plenty of fish out there for everyone to enjoy. I'll give more specific details after SCF!  :booty:

No problem papermouth. You already met a couple of our members. What you didn't notice was that one of them planted a tracking device in your boat.

Your GPS track has already been uploaded to the Member's Only section of this board when you trailered the boat.

You will have a lot of 'friends' out there at SCF.

I've noticed in a few posts the mention of SCF can someone please tell me what that is and when it is. I am thinking it is a crappie outing or something I would like to take part in it.
