Alamo / Alamo Lake
« on: September 19, 2018, 07:35 AM »
Not a fishing report! I called the store as I could not find any recent reports for Alamo anywhere. It is obviously a long haul to do a fact finding mission and see if there is any bite happening. With fall crappie fest quickly approaching was looking for any information. The person at the store was very friendly but seemed to be busy so I could not pump them for as much information as I wanted. What I was told is that there is a pretty good bite going on at night down by the dam. Sorry but was the whole report I was able to get. If anything to me that was encouraging that the crappie are not all goofed up and have lock jaw after the lake pull down. Did not get the skinny on launching but if people are night fishing it is obviously doable. Not sure which ramp of if 4 wheel drive is needed or suggested.

depending on the wind Marvin and I plan to fish Saturday but not sure if we will make it a one day turn around. Hopefully the wind forecast goes down 10- 15 mph on that big body of water in a smaller boat is no fun.

San Carlos / 12/02/2017
« on: December 04, 2017, 07:32 AM »
Marvin and I went to San Carlos Saturday. Unlike what Dave and Tommy experienced at Roosevelt the weather was uncommonly stable. We launched at safe light and put the boat back on the trailer as the sun was setting. The wind never blew harder than 3 mph all day and 90% of the day the lake was like glass. We boated 26 fish with 18 of them being keeper crappie. (5) were jumbo's over 2 lb.  with (1) exceeding 2.5 lbs. (10) were in 1.75 range and (3) smaller ones that we kept 1 lb. swallowed the hook and would not of survived if released. There was more water than we thought there would be and launch ramp is definitely useable. We caught 1/3 of the fish trolling double jigs with minnow's and the other 2/3 drop shotting. Fish were not concentrated at all. We would pull up to a spot and 2-3 fish then nothing. Move and same thing 2-3 fish. We hit one stretch of shore were we picked up 5 fish. It got to be a joke when I would say Marvin where is the next hot spot. However every where we tried (except for 1 or 2 spots) we would pick up a couple of fish. We caught fish in 8" foot of water and 24 foot of water. The best depth seemed in the 15 to 18 foot. There was probably 6 boats at the launch when we came in but we only spoke to one boat and they had caught "a couple" but did not share more than that. We primarily fished the coves and points across from the launch with the points being the better producer. Depth at the dam was 35 feet. It was not like the good ole days, we worked hard for our catch. It was nice to see good size fish all the way down to 8"

Crappie Reports / November Meeting
« on: November 14, 2017, 01:17 PM »
Several of the members fished Bartlett Lake before our November meeting on 11/11/17 All boats caught a few crappie obviously some boats did better than others. The encouraging news is that crappie were caught long line trolling double jig set ups both with and without minnows, drop shotting, casting, jigging in the trees, and bottom bouncing. The only technique I am aware of that was not used was a slip bobber and that may of worked as well.

Reports were also favorable for Roosevelt Lake and Alamo Lake

If this grabs your attention and are interested in more detailed reports please visit our welcome page and consider joining our relaxed but informative club.

A HUGE shout out to Top Deck. Incredible job done well. Your awareness and commitment to keeping others safe while on the water should and will not go unnoticed. In an era when so many are self absorbed you bucked that trend and came to the need of those that obviously needed it.

Wade, thank you for posting this. It has been my experience people like Top Deck do what is right and then go on with their lives never wanting or expecting accolades for their efforts. Once again thank you Top Deck for doing the right thing!!!!

Plan on launching at the ramp by the damn and traveling up lake. Once up lake you should start seeing some boats. If you go during a week day maybe not to many boats. If I had to guess you are looking at around 8 miles up lake to where the flotilla was this past weekend when we went. However I did hear of fish being caught in those 3-4 coves across from the boat ramp.

Bruce, no detour as of yesterday. Like others mentioned BIA 6 closed into the town of San Carlos

Old man needed a day to recover. SLOW SLOW SLOW 6 crappie 3 dink bass and 1 carp 10 lbs. We did better than most but not as good as another boat or 2 Probably 15-16 boats on the water. Lake looks good and fishy but I think the small front that went through Thursday and Friday of last week shut them back down. We trolled double rigs, drop shotted, casted to the bank, tried bobbers, about the only thing we did not try was trolling crank baits.
On the water @ 7:30 off the water @ 3:00

Good afternoon fellow slab hunters. Are you all going to Alamo to pre-fish for Spring Crappie Fest this weekend or are any of you venturing out to San Carlos? Marvin and I will be @ San Carlos early Saturday morning. If you see a gray and black 17' Triton with a couple of rather large human beings in it please stop by and say hell-o Hopefully we will have some fat fish in the live well and not just a couple of heavy weights sitting on our backsides wondering what the hell we are doing wrong.

See you all @ Alamo 04/08/17 if not before

Dave, We probably will not arrive to Spring Crappie Fest until after dark Friday evening. Just wondering if I had an assigned camp spot or just check in with you when we arrive. Really looking forward to seeing the entire Crappie Association Crew and maybe being competitive in the derby this year.
