Mine is in a plastic garbage bag for that reason.  I just stow it where the batteries are installed.

Matt;

Buy a spare hub with the bearings already in it.  That way, instead of fiddling around with bearings and lots of tools on the side of the road, you simply remove the castle nut from the spindle, pull the old hub off, put the new hub on, tighten the castle nut to approximately 50 foot lbs, back the nut off 1/4 turn, cotter pin back in and you are good to go.  If you get your trailer serviced by a shop before you go to Powell, they can sett you up with it and show you the steps.

Looks like they plan to drop it 10 feet.  Dang, and i'm just about to get my boat out of the shop.

General Discussion / Re: Alert: Alamo is in jeopardy

Here is what I e-mailed Pamela

Dear Pamela;

My name is Steve Seivert.  Recently, I learned of the Corpís desire to drain Alamo Lake for a period of 20 days at a rate of 5,000 CFS.   Inasmuch as this action could start in the next week or two and extend to a peak by March 15, 2018, my concern is that this draw down will happen right as the Crappie/Bass spawn is in full swing.  An event like this will surely affect the future population of those species unless itís done after the spawn is over.  It seems to me that if this event truly has to occur, it would benefit everyone to wait until the summer months.  Has that been considered?

Lastly, what elevation will the lake level be at when that release is finished?

Thank you for your consideration.  I look forward to your response.

Roosevelt / Re: Roosevelt
« on: January 08, 2017, 07:35 PM »
I've caught a ton of slabs on Roosevelt last year everyone in here said they weren't catching anything. I've also caught a ton on Bartlett last year when everyone said they hadn't caught anything. Locations I will not give out (not saying I'm some big bad crappie slayer). Not trying to argue but it's hard to believe the reports on here saying they don't catch anything when there's a ton of water in those lakes with a lot of baitfish and cover.

I'm not trying to argue either but your reports from 2015 and 2016 (especially Bartlett) don't seem to back your statements up. Do you only post when you have bad luck? Or should we not believe your reports?

Bingo...........

General Discussion / Re: Bearing grease
« on: November 02, 2016, 11:00 AM »
I've been using green grease for a while now and haven't had any issues.  I check my wheel bearing temperatures almost every time I stop since I cooked one three years ago.  In the summer in phoenix the hubs were running at 100 deg F to 130 deg F depending on the time of the day.   I'm thinking if they warm up to 170 they are starting to liquefy the grease and a hub / bearing  problem is developing.

Dang, that lake just doesn't catch a break.
