Roosevelt / Rosey 5/18

Tough day due to some jackassery on my part.  Got to Tonto end then set up the rods and went to get the net out of the locker and.... no net  >:( . My partner reminds me it's Rosey, don't worry we wont need it for crappie, Hahahahaha. A while later I get a tick and set into a huge slab, thought it was a bass at first. But soon as I got it close to the boat (easy net range) one flip and tink, goodbye big fish contender. My partner Wheathin did his best but really didn't have a shot barehanded the way it was hooked.  Repeat for crappie number two.  Finally rigged up a impression of a net out of a mesh bag, rear boat light, lure retriever, electrical tape, and some heavy braid.  With Wheathin's confidence and help I landed fish number 3 which was a little over a pound but the bite shut off after that.  2 crappie lost, 1 boated dropshotting minnows.  My only consolation would have been a few good bags at the weigh in but nope, I'll never live this down.

We fished in the Let's Talk fishing tournament yesterday launching from Bobcat at 515 until 3. We fished the tonto side trying many techniques, and boated 2 crappie, several bass, and one cat. The crappie came in 25 FOW, one on a jig tipped with a minnow, the other on a spoon tipped 10 feet below the surface. Saw tons of fish on the graph in the morning, and they slowly vanished. Both of our crappie came in before 9. Water temps were 71 to 74, Our crappie only weighed in at 1.80 total. It would have been enough for 3rd, but they only paid out 1st and 2nd

On the news last night they said SRP is going to keep pulling water from Verde system till July when Horseshoe is empty.

Crappie and Bass are non-native fish in horseshoe (what a shame used to be a great fishing lake)

Last time I was out there I was graphing fish and balls of shad everywhere past the no wakes. With the amount of shad, it just seemed like they had zero interest in the artificial bait.

I might be calling it on Bartlett until the summer and I can fish under lights.

What sites are the new ones on the map? 29-32? Any idea what the depth is for where you placed them?

Taking the Grandson in a couple weeks so I hope it is better by then.  Nothing like watching a 6 year old catch fish and he likes to eat them which makes it even better.
